You are a diamond, a carbon based entity with a few inclusions to make you slightly different from all the other chains of carbon atoms surrounding you. Your skin suit includes other useful elements like: oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen, sulfur, phosphorus, sodium, potassium and calcium, but these elements are only attached to the carbon chains and do not form the basic chain structure that allows biological molecules to achieve their complexity. Carbon is able to bond with all of these because of its four valence electrons. All kinds of living beings we know on Earth commonly use carbon for basic structural and metabolic functions, water as a solvent and DNA or RNA to define and control their form, so why do I say you are the most precious form of carbon, a diamond?
Shall I break it down this way? From tetrahedral molecular geometry, a central atom (you) is located at the center with four substituents (life)* that are located at t
he corners of a tetrahedron. a geometric solid in three dimensions with flat faces and straight edges, composed of four triangular faces, three of which meet at each vertex. It has six edges and four vertices. The tetrahedron is the only convex polyhedron that has four faces. Throughout time humans pondered on the power of this significance from ancient pyramids to modern mathematics.
A corollary of the usual law of sines is that in a tetrahedron with vertices O, A, B, C, we have
The sum of the angles of any side of the tetrahedron must be 180°. Since there are four such triangles, there are four such constraints on sums of angles, and the number of degrees of freedom is thereby reduced from 12 to 8. The four relations given by this sine law further reduce the number of degrees of freedom, not from 8 down to 4, but only from 8 down to 5, since the fourth constraint is not independent of the first three. Thus the space of all shapes of tetrahedra is 5-dimensional. The “fifth dimension” is often used to refer to unexplored or unknown aspects of the universe. Geometrically, the degrees of freedom can be interpreted as the dimension of certain vector subspaces, using the mathematical fact that a 3-dimensional object can be turned into its mirror image if additional spatial dimensions were available for it to rotate through. Concepts such as convergence, connectedness, and continuity are very simply proven with math; however every diamond is graded by the four C ‘s. I propose the 5th dimension must be a fourth “C ” – consciousness.
- * The four C ‘s = four substituents (life) surrounding your perfect atom of Carbon, forming your individually unique Diamond. Each of the values lending its properties to further precise meaning and purpose to the next.
Convergence: The act of converging and especially moving toward union or uniformity. One example, the independent development of similar characters (as of bodily structure of unrelated organisms or cultural traits) often associated with similarity of habits or environment. Another, the merging of distinct technologies, industries, or devices into a unified whole.
Connectedness: In Math a clustering coefficient is a measure of degree to which nodes in a graph tend to cluster together. Evidence suggests that in most real-world networks, and in particular social networks, nodes tend to create tightly knit groups characterized by a relatively high density of ties,
Continuity: An uninterrupted connection, succession, or union is consistency of the characteristics of persons, plot, objects, and places experienced, over some period of time.
Consciousness: The culmination of the fourth face of the structure, is the quality (qualia) or state of being aware of an external object or something within oneself, the ability of any entity to have subjective perceptual experiences. Your sentience, the ability to experience pleasure and pain- and only sentient beings (animals that feel, including humans) have intrinsic value and moral standing; the rest of the natural world has instrumental value, even other forms of carbon no matter how refined.
Graphene is a form of carbon. As a material it is completely new – not only the thinnest ever but also the strongest. As a conductor of electricity it performs as well as copper. As a conductor of heat it outperforms all other known materials. It is almost completely transparent, yet so dense that not even helium, the smallest gas atom, can pass through it. A fullerene is any molecule composed entirely of carbon, in the form of a hollow sphere, ellipsoid or tube. While all of our technology may take the very best from the properties of the element- even manufacture “diamonds”, YOU posses the je ne sais quoi to meet the qualifications to be a natural “diamond” .
The name diamond is derived from the ancient Greek adámas, “proper”, “unalterable”, “unbreakable”, “untamed”- this seems to contradict:
our behavior can be influenced by culture, attitudes, emotions, values, ethics, authority, rapport, hypnosis, persuasion, coercion… even genetics. Proper must therefore include all of these, our connectedness.
our physiology, as we consume things that alter our mechanical, physical, bioelectrical, and biochemical functions. Unalterable? … hold on, even a diamond forms subject to contamination by impurities, such as boron and nitrogen. Tiny amounts of defects or impurities color diamond blue (boron), yellow (nitrogen), brown (lattice defects), green (radiation exposure), purple, pink, orange or red. If we were free from any flaws we’d be paragons, type IIa Super D-flawless. The slight variations give us our luster, the way light interacts with the surface so to speak- light after all is energy…our energy makes up our continuity.
“unbreakable”, “untamed” can refer to the human spirit vs injury or level we feel we have evolved into. Just as the diamond was formed very specific conditions— exposure of carbon-bearing materials to high pressure & temperature range, or I’ll call this their “climate” — we are shaped, pressured and altered subject to climate around ourselves, our convergence.
What is the real value of a diamond? A gem quality specimen after all is artificially valued by the control of a very, very small fraction of institutions worldwide. Consumers desire the “luster” of this mineral a great deal more than industry seeks the strength, thermal or abrasive properties. Come to think of it, a very tiny fraction of all breathing this same air control the “value” of nearly everything , if we buy into the present state of our global society.
We are diamond. The greatest reserves of the collective go uncut, unpolished. Just as many people never have enough care and attention from the few who “run” things to see the showcase, the pedestal. What sort of value can uneducated, poorly fed, and otherwise neglected masses possible have? Our collective consciousness is finally tipping the scales in a new direction. The intrinsic value and moral standing proves the rest of this unnatural world has only instrumental value. Consider the few who deem themselves qualified to value anyone by their faith, by their social standing or by their education vs the real energy, power and yet to be realized potential of the 5th dimension around us.
Having found 3 diamonds(small hardly anything to mention) over a dozen or so visits to the diamond mine in Arkansas,
please do not misconstrue I am somehow oblivious to the attraction of the mineral. I look upon these wonders of nature knowing how long ago they were created (millions of years ago) also appreciate the rarity considering the amount of planet that has no trace of these within reasonable effort to recover- in fact the locations with diamond bearing ore still only lend the equivalent of the proverbial needle in the haystack in results.
Of course the child in me, I hope, will never allow me to lose the yearning to go dig in the dirt for treasures…may all of you be blessed with the continued wonder and excitement of the chosen adventures you set out upon! ~ ∆٩Sweeney Tog
